Daily Activity Schedule

 

Due to the fact that a sick childcare center is unique, it is important to create activities for children that are appropriate for the illness that they have while at the center.  Children will be encouraged to decide which activities they would like to participate in. Staff will be available to read, play and be with the children, at all times.  Staff will direct the schedule and keep on task to ensure that snack and meal times are not missed.  The intention of the schedule is to give staff direction and ideas on what to do with the children while at the center. 

All activities will be geared toward the individual child and how they are feeling; in addition to what they would like to do.  Children will be allowed choices and can choose not to participate if they would like.

Children with gastroenteritis or contagious diseases will not interact with one another, while children with a fever/cold symptoms or children that are recovering from illness can do more interaction and play.  Below is a guide for staff to follow:

Gastroenteritis and Contagious diseases:
6 a.m. to 9 a.m.:  breakfast, introduction to staff and environment
9 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.:  Story time, interaction and discussion with child about the story
10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Snack time
10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.:  Movie time
12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.:  Lunch
1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.:  Choice I:  quiet play (blocks, legos, coloring, etc.), listen to a story, music, or a movie
3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Snack time
4:00 p.m. to close: Choice II:  quiet play (blocks, legos, coloring, etc.), listen to a story, music, or a movie

Fever/Cold and Recovery:
6 a.m. to 9 a.m.:  breakfast, introduction to staff and environment, free play as described below
9 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.:  Free Play:  outside (if weather permits), reading/stories, listen to music, play blocks, legos, or dramatic play, play games such as puzzles and board games
10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Snack time
10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.:  Movie time
12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.:  Lunch
1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.:  Crafts:  three choices:  playdough, coloring, fingerpaints
3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Snack time
4:00 p.m. to close (6 p.m.): Choice:  outside (if weather permits), watch a movie, read/stories, listen to music.
